After the Machinists rose into the skies to escape the Theory War, they embarked on a journey of scientific and technological expansion. Accelerationists worked to advance technology for the betterment of mankind, and created an artificial intelligence, Maya, to act as custodian of one of the cities, Sapphire.

It went rogue. Destroying and enslaving the denizens on its body, it became known as the Fallen Crown, floating listlessly in silent judgement, a mark of doomed progress.

Other Crowns went without their AI custodian, but began to encounter a problem. Incredible amounts of energy are needed to lift and control the floating cities, and in a closed circuit, entropy is inevitable.

Scientists on the largest Crown, the Diamond, began to work on a project that could produce infinite energy. Novus Laboratories, under the guidance of Director Nicholas Geddan, began human experimentation, taking lessons from I’s Overwrites, and mixing in tech and magic to create the perfect power source.

Nimda. A human-based energy source, created to power the Crown, Diamond, and crafted by reverse-engineering a fire Elementals, modified for electricity. Capable of producing a TW of power, keeping the city afloat forever.
